The Book List Meme

Rebecca of Lost in Books has come up with a new meme that hits on one of my very favorite things in the whole world: lists. Here's what she says about it:

There is a different topic each week, which will be posted here.

You write a post on your own blog about the topic.

The post will be a list of 3 books pertaining to the topic. So, for example, if the topic were, say, 3 Books That Make You Want to Go Shopping, you would write a list of 3 books that when you read them made you want to max out your credit card. I have no idea what those books would be, but you get the picture.

You may include photos with your lists, especially if that helps illustrate your point.

You link back to the week's post here on Lost in Books in your post so if someone else wants to play, they can find their way here.

Then you come here and leave your link in the Mr. Linky so other people can find your post and your list!

This week the challenge is to list three books you read when you need a good cry. In cruising my shelves, I found:

1. Mrs. Mike by Benedict and Nancy Freedman
The sheer number of deaths from epidemics makes you weep until your eyes are dry (even worse that there's truth to the idea.)

2. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire by J.K. Rowling
I sob like a lunatic every time Cedric dies. Actually, I sob more when Dumbledore gives his moving speech about Cedric's death.

3. Marley and Me by John Grogan
Although I've listed this one, it really stands for all books where beloved animals die at the end. I've been crying over animal deaths since Charlotte's Web.

  1. Good choices. HP4 is definitely up there for me. I almost put "Where the Red Fern Grows" on my list because animal deaths always get to me too.

  2. Oh Marley and Me....
I made the mistake of reading it a month after we had to put our yellow lab down and I cried like a baby at the end.

  3. Oh yes, Dumbledore's speech at the end of 4 caused the tears to run down my face.

  5. I'm not even a dog person, but Marley and Me and also Shiloh and Old Yeller can make me cry.

  6. HP 4 makes me sob, too. So do the deaths in HP 5&6. Each and every time.

  7. I cried at Marley & Me too (and hugged my black lab tighter!) And have you read The Art of Racing in the Rain? Another one that made me reach for the tissues...

  8. I think I cried hardest when Sirius Black died!

I have had to disable the anonymous comment option to cut down on the spam and I apologize to those of you for whom this makes commenting a chore. I hope you'll still opt to leave me your thoughts. I love to hear what you think, especially so I know I'm not just whistling into the wind here at my computer.
