Sunday Salon: Summer Reading List

It's that time of year again. The time of year when I publicly declare what I am going to read this summer. For the purposes of my list, summer runs from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Even so, as in past years, it will be about a thousand miles longer than I can possibly accomplish. And if the past is any indication, I will veer off list at least a few times because I just can not confine myself to the list, no matter how much I adore lists (and I do adore lists). I am going up north sooner than I have been able to in the past decade or so so perhaps I'll be closer to finishing the list than usual. Or maybe not. In any case, here's what I'd like to accomplish this summer:

The books that I've started and not yet finished (with any luck one of these will be finished today so I can strike it off my summer reads list):

If you scrolled through the entire obnoxiously long list, here's where I've been traveling in books this past week: I was in China with an ethnic minority woman who gave up her baby and in the US with that baby after her adoption; I was in Afghanistan with a woman awaiting trial for the murder of her husband; I time traveled into the past to meet Jane Austen in her England; I was in California as a wife and mother coped with her husband's ALS diagnosis, his subsequent personality change, and eventual death all while trying to raise their young sons and maintain her career; I came from an alternate reality Toronto with the man who went back in time and changed the future (our present) by accident. I did also do some actual travel to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park and that was wonderful. Where have your reading and actual travels taken you this past week?

Sunday Salon: Annual Summer Reading List

With Memorial Day tomorrow, it's the symbolic start of summer and as per usual, I have put together a list of books I'd like to read between now and Labor Day. This year the list is more unwieldy than usual but I'm already at least 100 pages in on many of these so in the end it won't end up being more pages than usual I don't think. And of course I certainly won't actually get to all of these. I've come to look at my summer list as a sort of "my eyes were bigger than my stomach" sort of situation and that's okay. Do you make summer reading lists? What's on yours? If you bothered to read such a long, text heavy list, and I don't blame you if you didn't, have you read anything on my list? What did you think of it?

My reading travels this week have consisted of dips into many different places and worlds, too many to list actually. I am almost done with my sampling and look forward to being able to get back to sinking in and finishing everything I read. Where did your reading travels take you this week?

Summer Reading

The kids might not be out of school and we may still have activities to get to and from but the grill has already heated up, the neighborhood pool is open, and the temps are rising rapidly. We pause on this Memorial Day and remember those who have given of themselves to keep us safe. And somehow this day of remembrance also typically heralds the beginning of summer, which means that it's time for me to post the list of books I hope to wade through between now and Labor Day. I counted how many I read last year and if I read as many, I have a few wildcard spots open. We'll see!!! Comments on the list are welcome.
