Monday Mailbox

A smaller collection of books in the mail box than the previous few weeks sure doesn't mean less interesting books at all. I'm really itching to dive into all of these. This past week's mailbox arrivals:

The Outside Boy by Jeanine Cummins came from Angela at NAL.
In Ireland, a young gypsy boy who has always lived a peripatetic life settles into a town so that he can go to church and school. I can only imagine the culture shock and the potential prejudices he must face, and that, coupled with a long-buried secret gives this novel great potential.

How to Mellify a Corpse by Vicky Leon came from Allie at Inkwell Management.
For someone who is frightened of her own shadow and won't read creepy books, I do manage to find some strange ones, don't I? Better yet, I think this one sounds fascinating and I know that my teenager will be at least as fascinated with it as I am so it's win-win. I will be hosting a giveaway for this one next month if you are as offbeat as I am so check back.

The Writing Circle by Corinne Demas came from the publisher.
The trend in books a few years ago seemed to be ensemble books about book clubs. This one is an ensemble book about a writing group and I'm curious to see how it takes a familiar trope and changes it. That Demas is a poet and a short story author as well will probably change the feel of the book entirely and I'm very interested to see those influences at work.

Cheap Cabarnet by Cathie Beck came from the publisher.
Is this not a gorgeous cover? A memoir about a woman who advertises to form a group of Women on the Way and in the process makes a once in a lifetime friendship, this looks like a marvelous tale of growing into life.

As always, if you'd like to see the marvelous goodies in other people's mailboxes, make sure to visit Marcia at The Printed Page and enjoy seeing how we are all doing our part to keep the USPS and delivery services viable.

I have had to disable the anonymous comment option to cut down on the spam and I apologize to those of you for whom this makes commenting a chore. I hope you'll still opt to leave me your thoughts. I love to hear what you think, especially so I know I'm not just whistling into the wind here at my computer.
